Mljet - The whole of the Island Mljet is a National Park.  It is one of the most amazing places on the whole of the Adriatic and Mediterannean as well.  Its natural preserves are unique, several salt lakes inside the island enchanting.   This island is a must for sailors of all kind.  We highly recommend you to visit Island Mljet during your cruise.

Mljet is an island in the southern Dalmatian archipelago, south of the Peljesac Peninsula. In the extreme north-western part of the island is the submerged valley of Mljet Lakes: Malo and Veliko (Small and Big) connected with a 30-m long canal. Big Lake area is connected with the open sea by a shallow, 30-m long canal called Soline. Larger coves are Luka, Polaca, Tatinica, Sobra, Okuklje etc. Along the coast are numerous islets. The climate is Mediterranean. Nice pine forests account for 72% of the total island area. The closets coves on the northern coast are used as harbours. The remains from Roman times may be found all over the island. The ruins of palaces and of an early Christian basilica in Polace date back from the beginning of the early Middle Ages.

In the middle of the large lake, inside the National park, there is an old abbey and church.  You can use readily available small boats to explore the National park which boasts with several salt lakes.

Note 1: The park is located within the administrative region of the city of Dubrovnik. Because of its geographical position, its centuries of isolation and relative lack of population, Mljet has very largely managed to preserve its indigenous forests, which make it one of the greenest and most attractive islands of the Adriatic coast.
