BVI's Charter Base:
About:
This well
equipped marina is located
in a natural basin on the
Island of Tortola. It has berths for 180 motor cruisers and yachts.
Chandlery and provisions are available from the waterfront shopping mall.
Position:
The clear crystal waters surrounding Nanny Cay make
it one of the finest snorkeling and diving centers in the world. A visit
to 'The Caves' or 'The Indians' is a pleasure worthy of unique status. The
blockbuster movie, "The Deep", starring Jacqueline Bisset and Nick Nolte,
was largely filmed within and around the wreck of the RMS Rhone situated
in shallow waters nearby.
Approach:
Use VHF 16/68 just prior to your arrival.
You can also contact the marina office up to 24h in advance and reserve a
mooring place. The marina office is open from 8am to 6.30pm,
365 days a year.
Water Supply
All docks have high
quality potable water available. Nanny Cay has its own new reverse osmosis
water plant producing 50,000 gallons daily, tested regularly to ensure
compliance with US Federal Water Quality requirements. If you wish water
to your slip, a meter reading will be taken when the supply is turned on,
and again prior to departure, or monthly for longer stay visitors. (Please
let staff know if you wish the supply to remain on during the duration of
your stay). Please note that if the supply remains on, you are responsible
for the metered quantity of water used.
Electricity Supply
Most slips are equipped
with both 110 volt, 30 amp and 220 volt, 50 amp supplies, wired to US
specifications. Please inform the Marina of your electrical requirements
when reserving a slip. Electricity is charged on a fixed daily basis.
Larger vessels with significant power requirements may be required to pay
charges based on usage. In such cases, meters will be provided.
Garbage Disposal
There are several
garbage disposal points located around the Marina. There is no charge for
garbage disposal. If you have industrial waste, for example, oil,
batteries etc, please dispose of these in the areas specifically provided
for this kind of waste in the boatyard.
Laundry
Freeman's Laundromat is
open for self-service and full service laundry (Monday to Friday 8.30am to
5pm; Saturday 8.30am to 12 noon; closed Sunday). A same day laundry
service is available for laundry delivered before 9.30am.
Postal Services
Receiving mail: Mail can be sent to the
following: . Addresses take the form "Boat Name", Nanny Cay Marina, PO Box
281, Road Town, Tortola, BVI.
Sending mail: Mail can be sent from the Nanny
Cay marina office for next day posting. Stamps, scales, rates available.
Internet & Email
Access
Coconut Telegraph offers high speed ADSL internet and email access, at
hourly and daily rates from 8am to 6pm daily. In addition, laptop
connection on your boat, via a Wi-Fi (wireless) connection, or straight
plugin in the Nanny Cay Business Centre, the Coconut Telegraph, is also
available, and very popular.
Cruising Permits
The fee for a Cruising Permit is $4 per person per day for non BVI based
charter yachts (year round) and $2 per person per day for BVI based
yachts during winter. $0.75 per person per day during the summer season.
Cruising permits are issued at Customs and are only valid for a specific
charter period.
Please comply with this law as failure to do so can result in a fine of up
to $5,000.
Fishing Permits
You must obtain a fishing license from the Department of Conservation and
Fisheries: 494-3429. Please note that Horseshoe Reef in Anegada is a
protected area under Fisheries Law, and that fishing and anchoring in this
area is prohibited. Spearfishing is strictly forbidden and also the taking
of lobster and conch.

The Imray-Iolaire charts are available locally at Nanny Cay Chandlery.

Buoyage System
Red Right Returning! The BVI uses the American system so red buoys mark
the starboard side upon approach from the sea.
